Quilva for Linux
================

A self-contained creative workspace for novelists, screenwriters, and
long-form authors. Planning, drafting, worldbuilding, and book design
in one portable application.

REQUIREMENTS
------------
  * Linux x86_64
  * glibc 2.35+ (Ubuntu 22.04+, Pop!_OS 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+)
  * ~500 MB free disk space, 8 GB RAM recommended

RUNNING
-------
Extract the archive and run the launcher:

    tar -xf Quilva-1.0.0-linux-x86_64.tar.xz -C ~/
    ~/Quilva/Quilva

Or double-click the `Quilva` executable in your file manager.

FIRST-TIME SETUP (FRESH LINUX INSTALLS ONLY)
--------------------------------------------
Quilva's Publisher feature uses an embedded browser engine to produce
professional PDF output. On most Linux desktops the libraries it needs
are already installed by other applications. On a fresh, minimal
install, you may need to install them once.

If the Publisher reports an error about missing shared libraries,
run this in a terminal:

On Debian, Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint:

    sudo apt install -y \
      libasound2 libatk-bridge2.0-0 libatk1.0-0 libatspi2.0-0 \
      libcairo2 libcups2 libdbus-1-3 libdrm2 libgbm1 libglib2.0-0 \
      libnspr4 libnss3 libpango-1.0-0 libwayland-client0 libx11-6 \
      libxcb1 libxcomposite1 libxdamage1 libxext6 libxfixes3 \
      libxkbcommon0 libxrandr2 libfontconfig1 libfreetype6 \
      libxcb-dri2-0 libxcb-dri3-0 libxcb-glx0 libxcb-present0 \
      libxcb-render0 libxcb-shape0 libxcb-shm0 libxcb-sync1 \
      libxcb-xfixes0 libxcb-render-util0 libxcb-icccm4 libxcb-image0 \
      libxcb-keysyms1 libgl1 libegl1 libxshmfence1 \
      fonts-liberation fonts-noto-color-emoji

On Fedora, RHEL, Rocky:

    sudo dnf install -y \
      alsa-lib at-spi2-atk at-spi2-core atk \
      cairo cups-libs dbus-libs libdrm mesa-libgbm glib2 \
      nspr nss pango libwayland-client libX11 \
libxcb libXcomposite libXdamage libXext libXfixes \
      libxkbcommon libXrandr fontconfig freetype \
      mesa-libGL mesa-libEGL libxshmfence \
      liberation-fonts google-noto-emoji-fonts

You only need to do this once per machine.

APPLICATION MENU (OPTIONAL)
---------------------------
To add Quilva to your desktop's application menu:

    mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications
    cp Quilva.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/

Edit Quilva.desktop first if you extracted somewhere other than your
home folder — update the Exec= and Icon= paths accordingly.

LICENSING
---------
Quilva runs in Demo mode by default — no time limit, no expiry, with
a ~20 scene per project cap and watermarked PDF exports (Word export
is unwatermarked). Request a free Trial key from quilva.com for full
access to evaluate the Standard or Pro edition. Purchased licences
are one-time, lifetime, with free updates within the same major
version, and work on up to three of your own devices.

Use Quilva's License menu to enter a key. Keep your licence key
safe — you'll need it to reinstall or move to a new computer.
